The 糖心Vlog, in particular the Institute of Musicology and the Arts<\/a> (IMA), will be represented at the 37th ISME World Conference \u201cUnity in Music Education: Building Bridges for All\u201d<\/a>, taking place from 26 to 31 July in Montreal, Canada. As the world’s leading conference on music education, ISME brings together researchers, educators, and practitioners from across the globe. In this edition, IMA Head Prof. Luc Nijs<\/a> will present the institute’s research through two lectures and a panel discussion and lead a practical workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From well-being and musicianship to early childhood education and creative movement, IMA’s research will be on display in the following sessions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \n \n Fostering a Synergy Between the Development of Well-Being and Musicianship: A Kinemusical Perspective <\/span>\n\n <\/use><\/svg> <\/button>\n <\/h3>\n

Musicians at all levels face significant mental and physical health challenges, prompting a growing need to rethink how instrumental music is taught. In this presentation, Prof. Nijs will introduce a \u201ccaring\u201d approach to instrumental music education<\/strong>, in which the development of well-being and musicianship go hand in hand<\/strong>. Drawing on the PERMA model of well-being, constraints-led pedagogy and his innovative kinemusical approach<\/strong>, he will explore how movement-based learning activities can support both musical growth and personal flourishing. Prof. Nijs will present the key principles underpinning this framework, illustrate them through practical learning activities, and discuss its implications for music education, teacher practice and future research<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

As more children begin learning musical instruments at an earlier age, there is growing interest in understanding how best to support their musical development. Based on an international survey of 85 experienced music teachers<\/strong>, Prof. Nijs will present insights into teachers\u2019 views on instrumental learning for children aged 5\u20137<\/strong>, including learning goals, teaching approaches, teacher competencies and lesson content. Diving into the survey results<\/strong>, he will discuss the findings in relation to established approaches such as Suzuki and Colourstrings<\/strong>, and explore their implications for: <\/p>\n\n
