The project brings together developments in optical ground stations (OGS) for quantum key distribution (QKD) and their integration with local terrestrial fibre networks in Ireland, Luxembourg, Germany and Greece. With OGS sites ranging from initial construction to pre-operational status, the project aims to align their key architectural elements, components and operational parameters to fulfil the protocol requirements of the Eagle-1 mission and prepare for the forthcoming Security And cryptoGrAphic (SAGA) mission. These efforts will culminate in interoperability demonstrations through campaigns connecting OGS sites across Europe, making use of the resources provided by the Eagle-1 mission. The consortium will also address national and European standards and regulations, considering their implications for key processing, handling and the establishment of security baselines. This includes the secure relay of raw key material from satellite links through to processed and wrapped keys at the interfaces with terrestrial infrastructures.
